Start a video meeting

There are many different ways to start a Google Meet. Here are the ways I suggest:

For a scheduled meeting with a coworker or student: Schedule a video meeting in Calendar.

  1. Create a Google Calendar event on the day and time you wish to meet.
  2. Add your coworker or student as a guest to the event.
  3. Click on the option to "Add rooms, location, or conferencing".
  4. Click "Add conferencing".
  5. Click Save. The people you have added as guests will receive an email invitation.
  6. You'll both then see the link to Join Hangouts Meet on the calendar event.
  7. When it's time for the meeting, click the Join Hangouts Meet link. The guests can also click the link from their email notification.

For an impromptu meeting with a coworker, student, or group.

  1. Start by sending a direct message to your coworker or to the group of people you want to meet with. Use these instructions for sending a direct message or creating a room
  2. Click the Add Video Meeting option.
  3. Send the message.

  4. Both parties click on the Join Video Meeting to start the meeting.

Setting Up Your Class

Here is how teachers can provide students with a link to join their live class in Google Meet. UPDATE: If a Google Meet is given a "Nickname", the Meet will close about 30 minutes after the last participant has left the Meet. If a Google Meet does not have a nickname (the nickname is left BLANK), the link can be reused. You can also watch this video "How to Post a Link for Your Google Meet Class."

  1. Go to meet.google.com.
  2. Click Join or start a meeting.
  3. If you want the link to expire, give your meeting a nickname. If you want to be able to reuse the same link, leave it blank.
  4. Copy the link provided. This will be the link you and your students will use to join class.
  5. On your class Bulletin Board under "Links" add your link.
  6. Publish the link to one of your class periods.
  7. Repeat steps 1-5 for each class period. You should use a different link for each class period and remember to make sure it's being published to the right class period.
