If you have a Google Doc, Google Sheet, Google Slides Presentation, and Google Drawings, use this trick to force the person to make their own copy that they can edit.
This is another alternative. You can edit the shared link so that recipients receive a "template" that they can use. This option is different from the forced "Make a copy" option in that the recipient can preview the file before using the template.
