In January 2023, Blackbaud released a new assessment builder. Assessments created after 2023 will be created in the new assessment builder. Assessments from before January 2023 are currently still in the old assessment builder. Teachers can convert assessments created with the old builder to the new experience by copying or importing the old assessments. Assessments created with the old builder can no longer be copied or imported without converting.

Converting Assessments

Teachers can convert multiple assessments at once using Import Assignments. They can also select additional class sections to add an assessment to when importing, whereas copying will only add an assessment to the original class sections.

Convert assessments to the new experience using Import assignments:

  1. From the Assignment Center or class Assignments tab, select More > Import Assignments.
  2. Find and select the old assessments you want to import. Then select Next.
  3. A message explains that importing will convert the selected assessments to the new experience and that embedded media in questions, audio files, and the Allow Save for Later setting will not convert.
  4. Select the class sections you want to import the assessments to. Then select Next.
  5. Set the Assigned and Due dates and times and the Publish status for the new instances of the assessments.
  6. Select Save and close to complete the import.

New instances of an assessment created by import will have the same name as the original assessment. While you can set the Publish status on new instances of an assessment via import, you must mark assessments Ready for taking before students can begin the assessment.

Convert an assessment to the new experience using Copy:

  1. From the Assignment Center or class Assignments tab, select the context menu next to the assessment > Make a copy.
  2. A message explains that the assessment will be copied to the new experience and embedded media in questions, audio files, and the Allow Save for Later setting will not convert.
  3. Select Yes to proceed and create a converted copy of the assessment.
  4. The page will refresh and a new copy of the assessment titled Copy of [assessment name] will be listed.

The Publish status for the new copy of the assessment will default to No. If you do not see the new copy of the assessment, check your filters to ensure you're not excluding the copy from your assignment view. Additionally, you will need to publish the new copy of the assessment and set it to Ready for taking before students can take the assessment.
